RI Based Quilt Designer Featured in Martha Stewart Living!

On this episode of Business Over Breakfast we welcomed Claudia Middendorf, owner of Mathilde Quilts. Based in Rhode Island, Claudia is a designer, quilter, traveler, and San Francisco transplant. Claudia started exploring different avenues of what she could do to create something new - and textiles was it. As Claudia puts it, “she started exploring and never stopped.” She stumbled upon using linen as a source of fabric in her quilts which is really sustainable.

The texture of the quilts is really unique and has many intricate details. “Customers love to see these quilts being custom made for them” Claudia shared. Since the start of COVID, Claudia has been participating in online marketplaces, one of which is called “Field and Supply.” Since Claudia has been participating in the marketplace, Mathilde Quilts has gained national attention and even made an appearance in Martha Stewart's Living magazine! This newfound fame has led to a big uptick in visits to her website and custom requests and quilts.

“The high point of COVID is that Rhode Island really came together as a community and they embraced each other in ways that are expanding more and more each day,” Claudia says about the effects COVID has had on small businesses.

Rhode Island is one of the smallest states but there is so much talent here and we want to keep it here! In addition to making quilts, Claudia put her knowledge of graphic design to use and designed the new Shop Local Rhode Island and Visual Thrive logos.
